With a special interest in 18th century medicine, Rick participates with several living history groups portraying a surgeon of the American Revolution and French & Indian War periods. See press releases about living history groups participation His interest in military medicine is grounded in his experience as an Army Reservist. He commanded five hospitals during the Persian Gulf War that were located in the northern Saudi Arabian desert and served as a consultant to the Chief of the Army Medical Service Corps. He has lectured on healthcare topics in Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, and England and has conducted workshops at universities, in elementary and high schools, and on board tall ships in Rhode Island and California. His commitment to sharing information about 18th century medicine and All Things Revolutionary is complemented by his civilian career. Rick was a hospital administrator in charge of support services at a women's specialty hospital in Rhode Island and for the Department of Psychiatry at a San Francisco hospital. He is currently a healthcare consultant, planning a world-class hospital in Qatar that will focus on women's and children's health. He also teaches healthcare and writing courses for the University of Phoenix at Bay area learning centers and conducts their writing laboratory in San Francisco. Richard is awaiting publication of his historical fiction account of a surgeon who practiced in Rhode Island during the American Revolution.
